Important change to compliance action

The NSW Mine Safety Inspectorate has commenced a process of following up all directions issued under S191 Improvement Notices. It has been discovered that some mine operators have not complied with S191 Improvement Notice directions, which has resulted in escalated action. Mine operators are reminded that it is a legal requirement to follow directions issued under notices from the Regulator and failure to do so may result in further compliance and enforcement action.

The Resources Regulator within Mining, Exploration and Geoscience, is the state’s work health and safety regulator for mines and petroleum sites.

This includes open-cut and underground mines, petroleum sites, quarries and extractive operations, tourist mines, opal and other small scale mines, and mining exploration activities. We also undertake compliance and enforcement activities in relation to the Mining Act 1992, with a key focus on mine rehabilitation. We were established on 1 July 2016 as a standalone regulator.
