Maps

Geological maps are available in hardcopy, or as images or GIS layers. Most maps can also be downloaded to mobile devices.

Hard copy geological maps are available at several scales. The standard series maps are 1:250 000 and 1:100 000, with the latter scale dominating current and future map products. Some 1:50 000 and 1:25 000 maps cover mainly the Broken Hill and coalfields areas. Regional maps are printed at scales of 1:500 000 or more. The state is almost completely mapped at 1:250 000 scale.

Modern maps are detailed, showing comprehensive geology. However, maps published before 1980 may lack detail. As well as standard geological maps, there is a series of metallogenic maps showing mineral occurrences and geology. Other maps include geophysical-geological interpretationregolith-landform and coastal Quaternary maps.

Most hard copy maps are produced as a print run. However, high quality on-demand prints can be provided for early or provisional versions, out-of-print issues, or maps not scheduled for printing. Most maps can be previewed and downloaded from DIGS.
