Safety key to a happy festive season
As we approach the festive period, workers are reminded to remain focused on keeping safe and to prevent a workplace incident from taking away the joy of the season.
Alcohol consumption, lack of sleep, varied routines and distractions can affect fitness for work, and while Christmas is a period of happiness for some, for others it may trigger feelings of loss, separation, and loneliness.
The Regulator makes several recommendations to workers and mine operators to ensure a safe and happy festive season:
Workers should carefully consider their fitness for work, remain focused on tasks and be aware of hazards, travel safely, and take care of their own health and safety.
Mine operators should educate workers and supervisors of their obligations detailed in the mine’s health and safety management system and consider workload impacts from absences and leave.
