Safety warning issued to NSW mines as a series of line-of-fire incidents highlight critical hazards in mobile plant pulling activities

The Resources Regulator has issued a warning to NSW mines after a rise in incidents involving mobile plant pulling activities. In 2 cases, workers narrowly escaped injury as metal objects recoiled at high speeds when ropes or slings failed.

Investigations revealed incomplete work documentation, inadequate hazard identification and failure to follow proper procedures.

Mine operators are being urged to improve risk management by ensuring clear, updated procedures and an improvement in completing job safety analyses (JSAs) for all pulling activities.

Workers and supervisors must follow strict protocols, use proper equipment and escalate concerns when tasks deviate from plan.
