Practising certificates required from 1 October 2020

From 1 October 2020 this year, individuals will only be able to exercise a statutory function at a mine when they hold a practising certificate.

The transitional arrangements (PDF, 2.42 MB) that have allowed holders of certificates of competence to exercise statutory functions will end on 30 September 2020.

The statutory functions requiring a practising certificate from 1 October 2020 this year are:

  • Mining engineering manager (for all 3 classes of mine)
  • Mechanical engineering manager
  • Electrical engineering manager
  • Undermanager
  • Deputy
  • Ventilation officer
  • Ventilation auditor
  • Dust explosion control measures auditor
  • Open cut examiner
  • Electrical engineer
  • Mechanical engineer
  • Underground mine supervisor
  • Quarry manager – including conditioned to a specific mine (previously called production manager permits).

The Resources Regulator will monitor compliance to ensure only individuals with a practising certificate are nominated to exercise statutory functions from 1 October 2020.
