The implementation of a planned inspection program for mines and petroleum sites is a crucial element in the Resource Regulator's Incident prevention strategy [PDF, 681.05 KB]. Planned inspection programs focus on assessing a mine operator's control of critical risks and evaluate the effectiveness of control measures in the operator’s safety management system (SMS). The assessment typically involves sampling specific elements of the safety management system and ensuring the controls are both documented and implemented.

Inspection program fact sheets

Prior to the commencement of an inspection program, a fact sheet is published for industry to outline the principal hazard in focus and the various risks that are associated with that hazard. Each fact sheet then specifically details the critical controls which are planned to be assessed within the inspection program as well as specific publications or guidance material which are relevant to the subject. Additional resources are also available on our health and safety topics page.
