Strategic and Operational Plan for Electrical Engineering Safety in NSW Mines

The strategic and operational plan, now in its ninth year, is based on a risk assessment conducted by NSW Mine Safety electrical engineering staff and corporate planning principles. The risk assessment and plan are reviewed annually by the electrical engineering staff.

The strategic and operational plan:

  • Provides a long-term strategic focus.
  • Provides for a consistent approach by departmental officers across the state.
  • Provides a framework from which electrical staff can operate with a large degree of autonomy.
  • Plans actions to achieve targeted safety performance.

Electrical risk identification and management systems and planning

This guide has been put together specifically for NSW Mine Safety Electrical Engineering Staff (Inspectors, MSOs and Test Engineers) in order to assist in the development of Strategic Plans for Electrical Engineering Safety and associated programs, Minesite Profiles and Work Plans. With regard to individual workplans it provides the basis of the technical content. The current version is as a result of the electrical team's annual review, conducted in mid 2007. This guide will also be useful for mines, manufacturers and service providers when conducting their own risk assessments and identifying risk controls.
