Rhondda Colliery Rehabilitation

Northern Rhondda Colliery is a historic mine located in Teralba.

Operations ceased in 1970 and rehabilitation was completed in 2008, which included site remediation and revegetation. The site has been operated by Yancoal since 2017.

In September 2022, Northern Rhondda Colliery submitted its Mining Operations Plan to determine if the rehabilitation completion criteria and obligation had been met for a significant portion of the Consolidated Coal Lease 774 (CCL).

The NSW Resources Regulator assessed and approved the rehabilitation application finalising the part lease relinquishment application to Elemonop Pty Ltd to construct a recreational facility at the site.

The recreational facility, Black Rock Motor Sport Park, was approved in 2019 and encompasses a major part of the area proposed for relinquishment.

The developer will take responsibility for the management of certain ongoing rehabilitation matters, such as subsidence crack repairs, erosion controls and implementation of a Bushfire Management Plan.

The sale has been finalised and the site has been relinquished by Yancoal, allowing the Black Rock Motor Park construction to commence.

A rehabilitation information report will be released in the coming months for the Rhondda Colliery rehabilitation program.
