Serious injury of a Jumbo offsider during drilling work

The NSW Resources Regulator has launched an investigation after a mine worker was seriously injured when changing components of a Jumbo drill rig at Cadia East Underground Mine on 19 June 2023.

The Jumbo drill rig was being used to conduct drilling, bolting, and meshing.

The Regulator is investigating the cause and circumstances of the incident and will explore the mine’s systems for changing drill components, operation and mechanical condition of the Jumbo drill rig, instructions, training, experience and supervision of workers and processes.

The mine operator and other parties are assisting with the investigation.

A report will be published online when the investigation is complete.
